Gita Pensa
MD
Gita Pensa, MD, is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Brown University and a nationally recognized expert on malpractice litigation stress and physician litigation support. She is the creator and host of the open-access podcast curriculum 'Doctors and Litigation: The L Word', widely used in medicine, law, and the malpractice insurance industry to prepare clinicians for the practical and psychological realities of litigation.
Dr. Pensa consults with medical liability insurers, hospital systems, and defense attorneys, and maintains a national coaching practice supporting medical defendants through litigation. She is the creator of the 'Defense LEAP' (Litigation Education and Performance) courses, now licensed by multiple hospital systems and medical liability insurers as a way to educate and support new medical defendants.
She previously served as editor of the Academic Emergency Medicine research podcast and remains a managing editor at EM:RAP (Emergency Medicine Reviews and Perspectives). Her honors include EMRA National Faculty Mentor of the Year (2018), the Rhode Island ACEP Special Service Recognition Award (2019), and the Brown University School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2020). Dr. Pensa has been featured in Time, NPR, SXSW, and the PBS documentary A World of Hurt: How Medical Malpractice Fails Everyone.
